Okay, I never really paid attention to these elections stuffs, but I’m gonna start ranting about it anyway. This is prolly the first and last “elections review” I’m gonna do in my entire life. So here it goes.
To be honest, since I didn’t care about these stuffs so much, I just rooted for Noynoy Aquino to be the next President of the Philippines thinking he will never dare to ruin his parents’ names. My Mom told me that there will be a huge chaos if ever Noynoy gets to be elected as the next president. I understand what she meant, although I can’t explain it. AND, I didn’t like Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro then, ‘cause I kept on thinking, “If he’ll be elected, there will be another Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines.” But as days passed, I eventually rooted for him just because I see a fatherly figure in him, and since a country is like a one big family, its family members, which are the citizens, need a leader with a fatherly figure. (I’m a girl, but I seriously think that a leader should be a man. It’s even in the Bible.) Get what I mean? But that’s all. That was just my reason.
ON NOYNOY AQUINO: I didn’t like Noynoy Aquino for president, ‘cause… OKAY! How can you elect someone to be the father (leader) of our country when that someone doesn’t even have his own family?! PLEASE! It just doesn’t make sense. And.. I just hate the fact that probably half of the people who will be voting for him are just voting for him because of his parents. THAT’S REALLY UNFAIR TO THE OTHER CANDIDATES!! And I also realized that temptation knows no boundaries. I mean, whoever you are, it doesn’t matter who your parents are, you’ll always get tempted. And I bet the temptations you get for being the leader of a country is so great, that I think you’ll even forget what your principles are.
Personally, I believe that every leader we have had in our country had really good intentions in serving our country, except for Ferdinand Marcos, of course, he planned it from the very beginning. But as I have said, the temptations that come along with being the president of a country are so great that you’ll even forget why you ran for that position in the first place. And Noynoy Aquino is no exception.
ON MANNY VILLAR: A president is somewhat like a father, but only to a country. And if Manny Villar was my father, I’d be really scared. I don’t know why. I’m just scared of him. He is like, unapproachable or something and I see hypocrisy in his eyes. Plus, I hate the fact, too, that he always reminds people that he was poor before. SO WHAT?! The people should vote for someone because he thinks that candidate can do something for our country, not because of that candidate’s past or ancestors. PLEASE! We are voting for someone who will bring a good future to our country, not someone who is stuck in the past. I think you know what I mean.
ON EDDIE VILLANUEVA: Seriously, why does he only show up during Presidential Elections?!
ON GILBERT TEODORO: Just this night, I was reading some of the candidates’ platforms. Some of the platforms were boring me. Some of the candidates have a good vision for our country, but sad to say, not realistic. I won’t mention those unrealistic ones, ‘cause I would just be wasting my time. I opened their platforms in different tabs. I opened the tabs one by one, and then I was reading Noynoy Aquino’s platform, at least that’s what I thought I was doing. I was thinking, “WOW! I like his platform. Maybe I was just underestimating him. He deserves to be the next president after all.” Then, I read the title of the post. (I know I’m weird. But sometimes, I really read the post first before the title.) It was Gilbert Teodoro’s platform. Seriously! I’m not kidding. Before, I was just rooting for him, because I just simply do, but now I’m actually rooting for him, because of his vision for our country.
Below is a small part of his platform.
NATIONAL LEADERSHIP
The strong will to resist temptation
A good leader must be of strong character and integrity. More than anything else, he or she must embrace the true essence of public service as a calling. He should also have a clear grasp of the concept that he was elected to the Office which is an institution, and he, the one elected to that office. The ideals and obligations of the Office go beyond his personal self. As the one elected by the people, he must always be guided by what’s best for his country or constituents even if this entails great personal sacrifices on his part.
A true leader must accept the philosophy that he should serve without expecting anything in return.
In the end, his strength of character and integrity would give him the will to resist temptation. This strength of character and integrity does not come with the office – these traits are nurtured through years of public service.
EDUCATION
Preparing our children for the futureOur children should be well equipped with the right skills and knowledge base to be globally competitive. Gibo pushes for academic excellence and a better curriculum, because he feels, the current curriculum is light in technical skills, mathematics, and English. By recommendation, a substantial and additional two years to the original six years of elementary is needed to prepare young Filipinos for four years of secondary education.
Exhaust all means to give everyone the proper college education.
I like his platform. It’s realistic and he knows what a good leader really means.
You may be thinking, “Philippines doesn’t need another smart ass who can control us again like what the previous ones did.” But seriously, we have to move on from the past. And not all smart asses think the same way. Plus, we really need someone who has a lot of knowledge and wisdom. And we don’t need someone who follows what other people tell him to do; we need someone who knows what to do without being told.
Whoever will be elected as the next president, I bet people, sooner or later, will start rallying and doing strikes again. I really don’t get Filipinos sometimes. One minute they elect someone, the next minute they don’t like him. PLEASE, MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!
Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro is no exception of the faults I see in the other candidates. He is not a perfect man. He is a person, a human being, just like the other candidates out there and just like us. He also does mistakes. And I bet there will be problems if ever he’ll be elected, or whoever will be elected for that matter. I mean, problems are always there. It is what that strengthens us.
Since I can’t vote yet, this is the least I can do for my country. I just hope that for this coming May 2010 Elections, people will vote for someone who they think is really deserving.
This post contains my opinion about the coming May 2010 Elections. Thanks for taking time to read this! :)
